Am I required to be fully undressed?

No, you should undress to your desired comfort level. It is your choice to undress completely, leave undergarments on, or be fully clothed. Your therapist will use blankets and sheets to securely cover and drape any areas that are not being worked on. Only areas of focus will be exposed. You will also be able to dress and undress in the full privacy of the studio. Your therapist will knock on the door and ask your permission to enter the room. You should always let your therapist know if you are uncomfortable exposing any parts of your body during the session. Genital areas are not part of the session and will always remain covered.

What will the massage feel like?

A relaxing Swedish massage is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, the pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oil also helps hydrate your skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.

Are there different kinds of massage?

There are numerous types of massage and bodywork. Various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, application of pressure to specific points, and more. We can discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you.

Should I make conversation during a massage?

Although some people prefer to talk throughout the massage, don't feel like you have to make conversation with the therapist. After all, you're receiving a therapeutic treatment. Many people close their eyes and try to relax. Your massage therapist will take the cue from you. Deep tissue massages may require more feedback than other types of massage as the therapist works on deeper layers of muscle and will want to ensure that the pressure is comfortable. During any type of massage be sure to speak up if you:

  • Feel too hot or cold
  • Are in pain
  • Have any questions about the massage
  • Feel like you need more or less pressure

What if I need to use the restroom during the session?

You will be provided a bathrobe so that you can use the restroom without having to dress and undress during the session. Please keep in mind that time spent in the restroom will be considered part of the full session time.

Can you diagnose my condition?

We do not diagnose conditions. Massage therapy is a complementary healthcare approach to traditional medical treatment, not a replacement. Please consult your physician for a diagnosis.

I woke up with a cold today. Should I come in?

Getting a massage while you're sick will likely just make you feel worse. Plus, you may pass it along to your therapist, who may pass it along to other clients that day. Even if you're giving less than a 24-hour notice, we prefer that you reschedule your appointment if you're not feeling well.

Do you accept health insurance?

We do not. We are happy to provide a Super Bill/receipt for you to submit to your carrier.

What is your cancelation policy?

As a courtesy to our clients and practitioners, we require at least 24 hours' notice for cancelation or rescheduling. No-call/no-shows or less than 24 hours’ notice will result in a charge for the full-service amount the day of your scheduled appointment.

Are children permitted in the studio?

Massage Plus promotes a calm and relaxing environment. As a courtesy to all clients and staff, children are not permitted in the studio. If a client arrives with a minor who is not receiving a service, the session will not proceed and will be charged for the full amount.

Should I tip my massage therapist?
Tipping is not required or expected, but we do appreciate the gesture. Our massage therapists do not depend on tips, but if you would like to leave one, simply add the gratuity at check-out. The best appreciation you can show is to refer your friends and family to us.
